Background and Purpose of Interdisciplinary Internship
The “interdisciplinary internship” is designed to provide students with experience in research activities in an environment that differs from their usual research activities in order to foster their ability to look at different fields and to integrate different fields.
Destination and Contents of Internship
- Internship destinations need not be limited to companies, but can be selected from a wide range of perspectives, including international organizations, NPOs, and universities.
- If you do your internship at an organization outside the university, you will be placed in an environment that is clearly different from your usual research environment, so the content of your internship does not necessarily have to be different from your own research.
- In the case of an internship at an on-campus organization, the IIW program will determine whether the internship can be certified as a requirement for the IIW program based on whether the environment is different from your usual research environment or not.
- If the internship is conducted on campus, it will be judged whether it can be certified as an interdisciplinary internship based on whether the environment is different from your usual research environment. Please consult with the IIW office in advance.
- Research at an overseas university is also recognized as the interdisciplinary internship.
- Students who have worked in an environment different from that of a university may apply for an exemption from the interdisciplinary internship. However, the IIW office will review the application based on the submitted documents.
- The internship is required to last for a total of 60 days (3 months in effect), but may be divided into multiple destinations and periods.
- The interdisciplinary internship is intended to be a full-time internship. If you work less than half a day, it may not be approved as an interdisciplinary internship, so please check with the office in advance.
